Skyla's story

Meet Skyla — The inspiration behind SKYLA NR™

From stroke recovery to Paralympic dreams — a journey powered by resilience and virtual reality.

In 2023, we were approached by a Stroke Rehabilitation company about Skyla — a 14-year-old who had experienced a hemiplegic bleed to the brain. Her condition had resulted in limited left-side function since 2022.

Skyla had received support from the NHS and a private rehabilitation company, but traditional exercises felt overwhelming. In response, we developed a virtual reality prototype called SKYLA NR (Neurological Rehabilitation) — an application that uses immersive gameplay to encourage recovery exercises at home and in therapy.

The application records progress via a scoring system, allowing users to visually track their improvement over time. It transforms rehabilitation from a chore into an engaging, motivating experience.

What an incredible inspiration

What an honour to have developed an application to support such an inspirational young lady and to be a part of Skyla's recovery process. Skyla has worked so hard and is now doing trials to one day compete as a Paralympic swimmer.
